Teylor's Story
On August 3, 2020 around 8:30am Teylor, along with two other young boys, were opening up the Cowboy Cookin' food truck for the Lincoln County Fair in Afton, Wyoming. As the grill was being lit there was a giant explosion and all three were injured.
Teylor was one of two that were life-flighted for major burns.Teylor was flown to Salt Lake City's University of Utah Burn Center and admitted into ICU. She was stable and on a ventilator and feeding tube. Shawn and Stephanie drove (rapidly) to Salt Lake City where they were told that Teylor had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 49% of her body.
The flames had hit her from the front and wrapped around her head, back, arms and legs. The initial estimate is that she would need to stay in ICU for at least 6 weeks.
Since then Teylor has undergone several skin graft surgeries both from cadavers and skin taken from her own graft sites. Along with surgeries she endures extremely painful wound care sessions over her whole body on a daily basis.
Each day it seems like new challenges arise. Teylor is a rockstar and continues to amaze the medical staff with her determination and strength. Her prognosis is good but this will be a long road. We are in this journey together and will take it one day at a time.
